Assyrian military formations
The Assyrian military formations were an important factor in their success because they were large, organized and somewhat intimidating. The Assyrian army formations covered about 1.5 miles. Also they were not set up in one large army but instead many small armies. They had three types of soldiers in the army which were infantry, cavalry and chariot soldiers. The ratio of these soldiers in a formation is about 100 infantry: 10 cavalry: 1 chariot. The Assyrian formations were important because they could have intimidated their opponents and been more efficient.
